Why Service Matters to Laura

From an early age, Laura knew she wanted to dedicate her life to helping people. She studied criminal justice at the University of Minnesota and went on to practice law as a prosecutor, standing up for victims and seeking justice in the courtroom. After leaving law, she immediately turned to animal rescue, helping to build one of the largest nonprofit rescues in North Texas. Across each chapter of her life, Laura has chosen work that centers on advocacy, service, and giving a voice to those who need it most.

Now, as a mother of a Wayzata student and a long-time resident of the district, Laura sees a new way to serve. Running for the school board is not a career move for her—it’s a continuation of a lifelong pattern: using her skills, perspective, and energy to stand up for others.

She believes the role of a school board member is to listen first, understand the needs of parents, teachers, and students, and then make decisions transparently and responsibly. Her legal background has trained her to analyze issues from every angle, weigh evidence carefully, and explain her reasoning clearly. Her nonprofit leadership has taught her how to operate under financial constraints while keeping the mission—supporting students—at the center.

Laura is motivated by a simple but powerful conviction: every child in Wayzata deserves the chance to succeed, and schools succeed when families, educators, and the community work together.
